projects / taurid aerospace lamp
Year: 2018
Client: Qantas Airways Limited
Aerospace projects offer the unique opportunity to manage multiple initiatives within a single venture. After a decade of service, Caon Design Office was commissioned to oversee the refurbishment of the cabin interiors of Qantas' flagship aircraft, the A380.
A significant aspect of the project brief was the creation of a lounge space at the front of the upper deck. The concept aimed to foster more intimate moments by designing a diner-like booth configuration. A central feature of this design was the introduction of a small table lamp.
This lamp was meticulously designed over two years to meet the stringent requirements of commercial aerospace use. It is manufactured entirely from machined aviation-grade aluminium and sealed with a clear anodised finish. The LED light source is integrated into the cabin mood lighting scheme, allowing cabin crew to control it seamlessly.
