Created in collaboration with Christopher Farr for Wallpaper* Handmade: Wellness and Wonder, exhibited at Salone del Mobile, Milan, in 2018.
Ceremony is a homage to the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, with a nod to the relaxed sociability of the Italian aperitivo. The work comprises a woven rug held by an aluminium support structure, and a table with a removable mirrored-glass top concealing an interior compartment for snacks, ice and beverages.
The rug was hand-knotted from recycled PET plastic in a unique weave developed by Gregory Parkinson for Christopher Farr. The technique reflects centuries of carpet making tradition, while the ultramarine hue is emphatically contemporary.
Ceremony is less concerned with wellness than with wonder: the quiet theatre of ritual, where familiar objects and gestures are elevated into something worthy of attention.
