Dreamliner Economy Seat

The Qantas Economy seat for the company's Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has been designed for ultra-long haul routes. Based on a featherlite Recaro seat, the studio worked closely with the iconic German manufacturer to develop refined levels of comfort and new features.
The studio’s brief was to add features and imbue the seat with the Qantas design aesthetic. The studio redesigned the upper profile of the seat to introduce a gentle organic form, symbolic of the design aesthetic across the airline. Secondly, functionality was introduced in the form of a deployable shelf, designed to accommodate a variety of personal entertainment devices. Finally, a discreet mood light was introduced into the recess where the passenger’s screen would be in order to provide ambiance when the cabin is dark.
The studio carefully developed all bespoke plastics, fabrics and leather colours for application across the different areas of the seat to create a cabin experience unique to the airline.
